With the summer rodeo run in full swing, contestants are trying to get to as many rodeos as they can, win as much as they can and get as high in the world standings as they can.  It’s not an easy road to travel and only the true hardcore cowgirls can cut it.  Despite flat tires, weather, bad ground, road construction and all-night drives; when IFR50 rolls around, every one of them will say it was all worth it.

Kindyl Scruggs of Southaven, MS hit the rodeo trail hard during Cowboy Christmas and hasn’t missed a beat since.  She has moved into the number one seat in the IPRA world standings and has accrued a $4,000 lead over Jaylie Matthews of Wynne, AR.

Kindyl and her great horse, Money Red Down Home, have been crisscrossing the map from Texas to Quebec and everywhere in between and steadily adding to their winnings.

Scruggs and Bull earned over $12,000 during their July travels winning seven of the rodeos they competed at. Kindyl has her focus on adding a second world title to her rodeo resume.  She won her first gold buckle in 2016, earned reserve world championships in 2015 and 2017 and claimed the average wins at IFR47 and IFR48.

Jaylie Matthews of Wynne, AR occupies the number two seat in the top 15.  Jaylie had a solid July and steadily added to her win column.  Her sister, and current IPRA World Champion Barrel Racer Taycie Matthews, moved in to the number three spot in the standings bumping Kristin Yde of Benson, NC a notch to fourth.  Taycie picked up over $6,400 during the July run, while Yde picked up over $3,000.

Another cowgirl that cashed out at over $6,400 during Cowboy Christmas was Wendy Chesnut of Poultney, Vermont.  The 53-year-old barrel racer dominated the northeast rodeos.  Wendy picked up wins at Ellicottville, NY, Benton, PA, Castleton, VT, and Lake Luzerne, NY.  Chestnut climbed to ninth in the standings and is on track to make her third IFR appearance.

Kara Kreder of Collinsville, OK also had an outstanding July and picked up over $4,600 during her travels.  Kreder climbed from 13th to 10th in the standings and hopes to make her third IFR qualification.  Alicia Kilgus of Ocala, FL also has her eye on IFR50.  Kilgus and Nic O Shine collected over $4,000 during their tour of the fair rodeos in Indiana, Ohio and Pennsylvania. She hopes to keep her momentum going through August.

Canadian cowgirl, Jessica Gauthier of Mirabel, QU climbed from 17th to 14th in the world standings after pocketing over $7,400 over Cowboy Christmas.  Gauthier has five prior trips to the State Fair Arena and hopes to be among the top 15 cowgirls come January.

The International Finals Rodeo will celebrate its golden anniversary January 17-19, 2020 at the State Fair Arena in Oklahoma City.  For more information on IFR50 and to keep up with the world standings, visit www.iprarodeo.com.
